About Chinese Medicine

WHAT IS TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE (TCM)?

Acupuncture, Chinese Herbs, dietary therapy and massage are all branches of TCM, which originated in China over 5,000 years ago.

This natural health care method has become widely accepted over the past three decades in Australia.  It has now been established as a profession in Australia and has proved to be safe and effective.

Each person has an energy (Qi) circulation.  To maintain good health, it is essential for the body's energy to be abundant, and to circulate in a continuous and unobstructed manner.  The pathways through which the energy flows are called meridians and these circulate through the organs and tissues of the body.

There are over 350 acupuncture points and these lie along the meridians.  By stimulating these points with needles, heat or finger pressure the Qi (pronounced 'chi') can be balanced.

WHAT HAPPENS IN AN ACUPUNCTURE CONSULTATION?

Traditional Chinese Medicine recognizes you as a complex blend of body, mind and emotion.  During the first visit, your practitioner is concerned with all aspects of your health.  Details of your medical and family history, occupation, diet and exercise habits and other relevant information are collected.

The tongue and the pulse are also studied to assist diagnosis.  This allows an overall assessment of your current disorder, and gives an understanding of its cause.  Your practitioner can then give you guidance as to what treatment plan would best suit you and a prediction of how many treatments may be required for you to achieve optimal health.

Only single-use, disposable needles are used.

Private Health Fund Rebates are available.
